Anime Tokyo Station, a Japanese animation exhibition center operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japan Animation Association, operates under the motto "Making anime more interesting, and anime far into the future," and is a facility that promotes the appeal of Japanese anime to the world. As of May 10, 2026, it has been visited by 287,732 people from both Japan and abroad.

From Saturday, May 16, 2026, a special exhibition, "The Work of Tsutomu Shibayama," will be held on the first basement floor. Tsutomu Shibayama passed away on March 6th. He was a director and animator who had a long and distinguished career, working on numerous nationally popular works such as "Doraemon," "Chibi Maruko-chan," and "Nintama Rantaro." His artistic works in "Manga Nihon Mukashibanashi" and NHK's "Minna no Uta," as well as his impressive work as a highly skilled animator in works such as "Ganso Tensai Bakabon" and "Dokonjo Gaeru," are also memorable. Shibayama was a craftsman, an artist, and a master.

This exhibition showcases designs, image boards, storyboards, and other materials drawn by Mr. Shibayama during the animation production process, as well as illustrations he created in his private time, offering a retrospective of his work and legacy. Please note that the exhibits will be changed during the exhibition period.
*Please check the official Anime Tokyo Station social media accounts for information on when the exhibits will be changed.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to reflect on Mr. Shibayama's career through this special exhibition.
