Geek Pictures Inc. will be holding a spatial experience event called "Q LIMINAL" (pronounced "Criminal") to commemorate the release of the A24 film "Backrooms," which will be released in Japan on September 4, 2026 (Friday), for a limited time of 10 days from September 11 (Friday) to September 20 (Sunday), 2026, at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
■ About the spatial experience event "Q LIMINAL"
Stepping inside, I found myself in a space where fluorescent lights hummed softly and sterile, unadorned walls stretched as far as the eye could see.
And then—countless QR codes, as if encroaching upon the wall, completely cover it.
"Q LIMINAL" is a spatial experience event based on the world of the urban legend "The Backrooms" that spread on the internet, allowing participants to enjoy an immersive experience as if they have wandered into the other side of reality. Participants explore the "liminal space" that is the subject of the film—a space with no exit that is slightly off from reality, a place that looks familiar yet is empty—and gradually unravel the true nature of this strange space that lies at the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary.
Numerous QR codes will appear throughout the venue. However, not all of them have any meaning. Your "exploration rate" will only increase when you correctly scan the right QR code with the dedicated app. Mysterious symbols and shapes are the only indicators of which QR code to scan and how. There are no words.
This is a new kind of interactive event where participants can enjoy different experiences depending on their own interpretations and choices.
