"Toshima Ward Artist Association Exhibition" is being held at Echika Ikebukuro Gallery (inside Tokyo Metro Ikebukuro Station). Until Sunday, December 27th.
The Echika Ikebukuro Gallery was set up in March 2009 at Ikebukuro Station on the Tokyo-Metro Fukutoshin Line with the aim of creating a spacious and moist cultural space at the station and contributing to the creation of a city with a scent of culture and art. Until now, we have been disseminating information on various cultural arts of the ward, such as the introduction of "Ikebukuro Montparnasse," which is a cultural resource of the ward.
The Toshima Ward Artist Association is a group of artists founded in 1954, led by Goro Tsuruta, who was one of Ikebukuro Montparnasse, and has produced many famous artists such as Shigeru Morita, Tadashi Yoshii, and Takashi Mine. I will. Currently, the members are artists of Western painting, Japanese painting, sculpture, and crafts. In the exhibition, 9 works will be exhibited, focusing on Japanese paintings, Western paintings, and dyeing craft paintings. Various works from traditional oil paintings to full-scale dyed Yuzen paintings are gathered together.
Please take a look at the numerous works of Toshima City artists, including Ikebukuro Montparnasse, which continues in the historical climate of Toshima City's culture and art.
* Ikebukuro Montparnasse …
From the 1930s to the 1940s, there were several atelier villages around Nagasaki, Chihaya, Kanamecho, and Takamatsu, and many artists were active. They worked hard and devoted themselves to their creations in poverty, and at night they went out to the city of Ikebukuro and engaged in various exchanges. The enthusiastic appearance of the artist has come to be called "Ikebukuro Montparnasse" after the place name of the art center in the southern part of Paris.
