Yukata. One of traditional Japanese clothes wore in summer.
All stores of fashion boutique “Urban Research ROSSO” are now holding one of its annual events “Yukata-ten (Yukata Exhibition).” This year’s theme is “Taisho Roman.”
There are Yukatas of many different patterns that include various standard patterns and limited new patterns available only in the year. In addition, ROSSO features its original Yukata made by the old established clothing company TONOYO that boasts more than 300 years of history.
The original retro-modern Yukatas were created using modern colors on classical patterns. One of the representative patterns is “Fuyo (hibiscus),” and that of this year is revival of the first generation that was very popular for its light and tender impression. Another representative pattern is “Bara (rose).” Its standard version is white flowers on deep blue, and that of this year is red flowers on pure white.
New patterns are also retro-modern such as “Tombo (dragonfly),” “Hotaru (firefly),” and “Hagi (Japanese clover).” Another new pattern “Kobana (small flowers)” is more nostalgic, carrying Taisho-Roman atmosphere. It is hand-dyed by skilled craftsmen using special dying technique called “Chusenzome.” The fabrics used are high-grade cotton/hemp fabric ideal for beautiful color/pattern results, and cotton/Ro fabric that is slightly translucent with pores and offers you a cool and smooth feeling by releasing excess body heat and steam. “Kobana” is therefore a higher-grade Yukata of all.
ROSSO’s authentic Yukatas are created for a wide range of customers regardless of trends and generations and definitely can be enjoyed for a long time. Coordinating with Han-eri (neckpiece) and Han-haba-obi (half-width-obi), they also can be enjoyed as Natsu-Kimono (summer Kimono).
Each shop also offers traditional Japanese Kimono items such as Obi (Kimono sash), Obijime (decorative string on Obi), and Geta (traditional footwear) as well; therefore, you can complete your own authentic Yukata fashion at a ROSSO shop.
